Falcons fall to Bishop Montgomery, 44-14.
Bishop Montgomery (2-0) recovered four Valley fumbles and picked off Valley Carlos Acevedo twice.
"We moved the ball but dropped it all night," Santa Ana Valley (1-1) coach Larry Mohr said.
Santa Ana Valley’s Darius Nacoste had 172 yards on 25 carries, 54 yards on four catches and a touchdown.
Bishop Montgomery coach Arnold Ale said he wanted his team to get off to a fast start on special teams against visiting Santa Ana Valley.
Chandler Jones was the player who answered for Bishop Montgomery.He got Bishop Montgomery deep into Santa Ana Valley territory on the opening kick, enabling quarterback Brian Cabanas to hook up with Philip Friedman on a 2-yard toss three minutes into the contest.
After Santa Ana Valley took a 7-6 lead later in the first quarter, Jones ran the ball 97 yards to put Bishop Montgomery ahead 12-7.
The score on the second kickoff was pivotal in Jones’ eyes. "I saw everything open up in the middle and just ran in," he said.
Jones had three catches for 170 yards, two of which were touchdowns. He also had an interception on defense.
Cabanas was 8-for-17 for 179 yards and four touchdown passes. He also ran in a short score. Bishop Montgomery running back Nolan Plummer had 90 yards on seven carries and a 57-yard touchdown.
