Kickoff '09: El Toro Chargers

OCVARSITY.COM

Last season record:

2-8, 2-3 (fourth place)

Postseason:

Did not qualify for the playoffs last season.

Coach:

Rob Frith (first season)

Outlook:

The Chargers just missed the playoffs last season, but they return 16 starters and have shown a lot of growth in the offseason. El Toro has some very good skill players, a lot of size on the O-Line, a lot of speed on defense. Frith, who played for Mark McElroy in the mid-1990s at San Clemente, has injected a lot of energy and the Chargers should be in the hunt for a postseason bid.

Home stadium:

Trabuco Hills High

Factoid:

Rob Frith, who played for Mark McElroy at San Clemente in the mid-1990s, takes over as the Chargers head coach after three years as an assistant for the Chargers. Frith has added four new assistant coaches - Mike Mayoral (Saddleback College), Lyle Lansdell (Calvary Chapel), Dick Freeman (Corona del Mar) and Dan Williams (Calvary Chapel) - who have combined for over 100 years of coaching experience.

Strongest:

Brian Roth (325-pound bench press, 460-pound squat and 295-pound clean)

Fastest:

Ronnie Johnson (4.5 in 40-yard dash)

School record:

220-178-4
