Football semifinals updates for sites, times
Tustin is the home team for its CIF-SS Southwest Division semifinal Friday against Villa Park, but Villa Park might request that the game not be at Tustin’s home field.
Tustin plays its home games at its on-campus field, Northrup Field, where the seating capacity is 3,700. It is one of the smaller high school football venues in Orange County.
Villa Park athletic director Tom Fox said Northrup might be too small to handle the number of fans expected at the game. Villa Park is considering asking Tustin to secure a larger venue.
A venue close to both schools that would be available Friday is Santa Ana Stadium, which has a capacity of 10,000.
Tustin would have to agree to such a move. If Tustin declined the request, Villa Park could appeal to the CIF-SS office, which approves sites for all CIF-SS playoff games.
If the section office’s evaluation of crowd sizes from previous years shows that Northrup Field would be inadequate, then it could instruct Tustin to pursue another venue.
Friday’s semifinals for Orange County teams (starting time 7:30 p.m. unless noted):

Southwest Division – Foothill vs. Edison at Orange Coast College, 7 p.m.; Villa Park at Tustin.
