Roundup: Troy makes waves in Division 4
Shannon Grossman scored on a counterattack with 48 seconds left in the first sudden-death overtime to lift the visiting Troy girls water polo team past La Serna of Whittier, 15-14, in a nonleague match Tuesday.
La Serna is ranked second in Division 4, one spot ahead of Troy (1-0).
Alison Lany and Alicia Tully combined for nine goals for the Warriors.
Troy opens the Villa Park Classic on Thursday against Bonita, the top-ranked team in Division 4.
In nonleague:
Orange Lutheran 20, Marlborough of Los Angeles 9: Freshmen Campbell Ruh and Emily Skelly each scored seven goals at Occidental College to lead the Lancers (1-0) to a victory in their first ever match.
Beckman 14, Tesoro 11: Nikki Daurio and Emiko Mizusawa each scored five goals to the visiting Patriots (1-0), who overcame seven goals by Stassia McGlothlin of Tesoro.
Estancia 12, Ocean View 9: Ilene Umansky tied her season-high by scoring nine goals to lead the host Eagles (4-4).
