BELLFLOWER - Jimmy Ohiri threw three touchdown passes to Brandon Estrada to lead Mayfair of Lakewood to a 43-13 victory over Calvary Chapel on Friday night at Bellflower High in the first round of the CIF-SS Southern Division playoffs. (Full game stats.)
The Monsoons (8-3), winners of eight consecutive Suburban League titles and 49 consecutive league games dating to 2001, will play Los Amigos in the second round next Friday.
On Mayfair's first play of the game, Dominique Small raced 65 yards for a touchdown, giving the Monsoons a 7-0 lead.
The Eagles (4-7) countered with a 15-play drive to the Mayfair 25-yard line, but Jim Martin was tackled short of a first down after catching a pass from Tikey Mahlow on a fourth-down play.
The Monsoons high-powered offense took command and scored on their next four possessions to take a 36-0 lead at halftime.
Ronald Kennedy Jr. had a 6-yard touchdown run to increase the Monsoons' lead to 14-0 late in the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter, Ohiri tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Estrada. Keith Harvey scored on a 42-yard run and Ohiri completed a short pass to Estrada, who raced 51 yards for a touchdown with 1:21 left in the half.
The Monsoons generated 337 yards of total offense in the first half and needed only 16 plays to do so.
