LAGUNA BEACH - In their first meeting since 1953, the St. Monica Mariners were overwhelmed by the Laguna Beach Breakers, 37-7, Friday night in a nonleague game at Laguna Beach High.
The game opened with a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Laguna Beach senior Andrew Paddon. The Breakers (1-3) rode that momentum through the first half, scoring on their next four possessions.
Senior Zach Smith rushed for a 15-yard touchdown at the start of the second quarter, and senior John Snedegar and sophomore Austin Paxson added touchdown runs to make the score 31-0 at halftime.
St. Monica’s lone score came midway through the fourth quarter. Mariners (0-3) quarterback Joe Giesregen connected with wide receiver Mike Holubowski for a 10-yard touchdown pass.
