Corona del Mar's girls water polo championship Saturday has netted the Sea Kings the No. 1 ranking in CIF-SS Division I.
On Monday afternoon, Orange County's top-ranked team returned to the top spot in the rankings. Corona del Mar defeated previously top-ranked Dos Pueblos, 8-7, in the finals of the Irvine Southern California Championships on Saturday.
But despite the victory, there was discussion whether CdM would take the top spot because Dos Pueblos played the Sea Kings close despite being without star goalie Sami Hill (thumb).
The rivals have split two matches at full-strength.
With the move Monday, Corona del Mar took giant step toward securing the top-seeding in the Division I playoffs. The pairing will be announced Monday (Feb. 16), at 11 a.m.
