Tesoro passing attack leads way in 51-7 victory

LAS FLORES - The combination of senior quarterback Robbie Piczao and senior wide receiver Brett Gudim paved the way for another impressive victory for the Tesoro Titans.

Picazo threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns, and Gudim caught six passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns, along with an interception return for another score, as the Titans rolled over El Modena, 51-7, on Friday at Tesoro High.

"We wanted to set the tone early," Gudim said. "We just want to bring this kind of offensive effort every game."

Behind the pinpoint passing of Picazo, the Titans (3-0) marched impressively down the field on the opening drive of the game and covered 69 yards in five plays. A 4-yard touchdown reception by Gudim gave the Titans a 7-0 lead. After forcing a quick three-and-out from the Vanguards, the Titans needed only 1:21 to increase the lead as senior fullback Isaac Tago scored from a yard out to make it 14-0. The Vanguards managed a first down on their next possession, but the Titans defense stiffened, forcing El Modena to punt.

Early in the second quarter, Picazo's directed a 10 play, 78 yard drive, culminating in his 2-yard quarterback sneak gave the Titans a 21-0 lead. The Titans then went to the ground game to set up their next score, as their massive offensive line produced huge holes in the middle of the Vanguard defense for sophomore running back Seth Davis gained 46 yards on three carries.

Later in the second, Picazo's 26-yard touchdown pass to Gudim capped a six-play, 77-yard drive and increased the lead to 28-0.The Titans defense forced another punt, and on the ensuing play, With less than two minutes before the half, Picazo hit senior wide receiver Preston King down the middle on a 32 yard touchdown pass, giving Tesoro a 35-0 halftime advantage.On the third play of the second half, Gudim picked off Vanguard quarterback Anthony Daniel and weaved his 47 yards for a touchdown to make it 42-0.The Vanguards (1-1) capped the scoring late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Anthony Daniel scored on a 3-yard touchdown run.

"I thought we came out and played well," said Titans coach Brian Barnes. "We just want to keep getting better and better."
