Ocean View wastes no time in blowout
SANTA ANA - Most teams cannot win in the first 18 minutes of a football game, but Thursday night’s Golden West League finale between Ocean View and Saddleback proved to be a bit of an anomaly.
The Seahawks scored 41 points before the five-minute mark of the second quarter and cruised to a 61-36 victory at Santa Ana Stadium.
“We got a couple of breaks (in the first half) and were able to sustain some drives,” Ocean View coach Harold Eggers said. “We were able to throw the ball and that was a key for us.”
Ocean View quarterback Nolan Tippy threw for 166 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.
However, nursing a 27-point lead, the Seahawks (4-6, 1-4) relied on 220-pound running back Timothy Robinson after halftime. Robinson finished with 153 yards on 26 carries, including three touchdown runs.
Wide receiver Carlos Correa caught seven passes for 182 yards, including catches of 79 and 62 yards in the third quarter, for Saddleback (2-8, 0-5).
Quarterback Tino Candelas completed 13 of 34 passes fro 266 yards to surpass 2,000 yards passing this season for the Roadrunners.
Ocean View’s Travis Sparks-Jackson had a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
