CIF-SS football playoff pairings to be released Sunday

When: Sunday, at-large teams announced at 8 a.m.; Divisional brackets with Orange County teams are released at 10:30 a.m. (Northwest and Southern), 11 a.m. (Pac-5), 11:30 a.m. (East Valley and Northeast), and noon (Southwest).

Playoffs begin: Friday, for most teams. Stadium availability could force some games to be played Thursday or Saturday.

What teams are in the playoffs: Teams receive guaranteed playoff berths in their five-league divisions if they finish among the top two teams in four- and five-team leagues and among the top three in six- and seven-team leagues. An exception is in the Northeast Division, in which only the top two finishers in each league, regardless of size, receive guaranteed entry because the Northeast is a six-league division.

What divisions include Orange County teams: East Valley, Northeast, Northwest, Pac-5, Southern and Southwest.

Orange County teams likely to be top-seeded: Corona del Mar (Southern) and Edison (Southwest).
