Stoll wins 600th match at El Toro

Yes, El Toro pulled out all its tricks Tuesday to honor longtime boys water polo coach Don Stoll.
The third-ranked Chargers did their part in their season opener, defeating visiting Riverside Poly, 15-6, to give Stoll his 600th career victory at the school.
In his 29th season at El Toro, Stoll credited his players for his success, which includes six CIF-Southern Section titles and one Masters crown.
“I have special kids and I enjoy what I do,” Stoll said. “I say the kids are the reason we’re this fortunate here at El Toro.”
The Chargers (1-0) have another talented roster. U.S. junior team member Nick Rascon scored three of his match-high four goals in the first period as the Chargers bolted to a 6-0 lead.
Junior center Russell Renteria finished with three goals, including a pair in the third period. El Toro led, 13-3, after three.
El Toro sophomore goalie Garrett Danner was solid with eight saves.

Cathedral Catholic/San Diego 11, No. 5 JSerra 10 (OT): Nick Santala scored five goals but the visiting Lions (1-1) fell in San Diego.
No. 8 Laguna Beach , No. 10 Foothill (OT): Sophomore Nolan McConnell scored five goals as the Breakers (1-1) dropped the visiting Knights (0-2).
No. 1 Newport Harbor 12, Long Beach Wilson 6: Blake Kelly and lefty Jack Yeager each scored four goals to lead the visiting Sailors (2-0).
No. 6 Villa Park 15, No. 12 Santa Margarita 7: Sophomores BJ Churnside and Eric Buncag combined for nine goals to lead the host Spartans (2-0) past the Eagles (1-1).
No. 2 Mater Dei 10, Dos Pueblos 8: Alex Wherry scored five goals as the visiting Monarchs won their season-opening match. Mater Dei led, 7-3, going into the fourth period.
No. 7 Los Alamitos 14, No. 17 Northwood 7: Sam Weiser scored four goals to pace the visiting Griffins (1-0).
No. 15 San Clemente 21, El Dorado 6: Jacob Mourer, Connor Foltyn-Smith and Joe Hanacek each scored three goals to pace the visiting Tritons (1-0).
No. 20 University 12, No. 25 Aliso Niguel 6: Mingas Galinas had three goals and three assists to pace the host Trojans (1-1).
