Cornwell back on the attack for Sunny Hills

Sunny Hills' girls water polo team welcomed back one of its top scoring threats last week.
Center Brittany Cornwell returned from post-concussion syndrome and scored four goals in a 10-8 victory against Troy in the Freeway League on Thursday.
The senior suffered a concussion and a cut in the Lancers' scrimmage against Canyon, Sunny Hills coach Keith Nighswonger said in an email.
Cornwell returned about two weeks later and played in six matches but began having headaches.
On Thursday, she showed some of the form that made her Orange County's third-leading scorer last season with 129 goals.
“She returned to her ‘Cornwell ways,'” Nighswonger said. “She is still trying to get her conditioning back, but she does fit nicely into our group.”
Cornwell could be a key player for the Lancers (14-4, 1-0) again this week. Sunny Hills plays Fullerton (11-5, 1-0) on Tuesday and La Habra (11-4, 1-0) on Thursday. …

BOYS SOCCER: VALENCIA TIGERS ON THE PROWL
The Valencia boys soccer team makes its first appearance in the county top 10, coming in this week at No. 6.
Diego Garcia scored for the Tigers in a 1-0 victory over Sunny Hills, ranked No. 7 this week.
Valencia (10-2-0) has been on a quite a run since losing to Troy, 7-6, last month. It has won four consecutive games, including three by shutout.
The Tigers have allowed only one goal during that stretch. Robert Escudero has been the offensive leader for Valencia, scoring three goals during the Tigers' recent winning streak. - Damian Dottore
GIRLS SOCCER: YOUNG STARS LIFT EL DORADO
Though short on experience, two underclassmen are making big contributions to the El Dorado girls soccer team.
Freshman Christy Self and sophomore Rebecca Wilson have combined for 17 of the 23 goals scored by the Golden Hawks and they have contributed seven assists.
Self has totaled nine goals, second in the county among all freshmen.
After Thursday's 2-0 league-opening victory over Villa Park, either Self or Wilson had scored a goal in all but one of the team's games.
Their contributions helped the Golden Hawks win eight of their 11 games heading into today's league battle against El Modena….
Orange Lutheran girls soccer player Emily Viviano, who was the Trinity League Co-Defensive Player of the Year last season, has committed to Saint Louis University. - Jason Eichelberger
