Spring Insider: Q&A with A.J. Cruz
Five questions with RB/DB A.J. Cruz:
Question: Who is the NFL player you see yourself playing like?
A.J. Cruz: Champ Bailey. ...Lock-down corner. He’s been my role model ever since I was little. He’s like the ideal cornerback that you want. Whenever there is a big play for the Broncos defensively, he’s there.
Q: Which side do you feel the most comfortable, offense or defense?
AJC: Defensively. I think I can do some things offensively as well, but I just think defense is my strongpoint. I feeler stronger and more confident and I know I can make plays on defense.
Q: Coach Mike Jacot said that you’re also going to figure in on the offensive side as well. How do you feel about that?
AJC: I hope I get the ball more (on offense). Last year, I only got the ball eight times. Score some touchdowns, get some picks (interceptions)... anything to help the team win.
Q: What are your personal goals for next season?
AJC: I want to lead the league in interceptions and maybe tackles for a cornerback. Definitely making All-County is a goal.
Q: What are your thoughts on the team after spring practice?
AJC: The dynamic is definitely different. We have younger players. We’re actually a little more athletic, we’re just a little bit smaller. So, hopefully, the athleticism will make up for that. We have some talent, but it’s young.
