There were five juniors on last year’s All-County team. Few players, seniors included, were as dynamic as La Habra’s Ronnie Hillman, who was an “All-Purpose” selection to the team for his contributions as a running back, receiver and returner.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Hillman said he is unsure what his true position is, but his favorite thing to do on the football field is to take a handoff. Hillman recently shared his thoughts on La Habra’s challenging schedule and some of his personal goals the 2008 season.
Question: What do you think about playing San Clemente and Los Alamitos in the preseason?
Ronnie Hillman: I like it. I wanted a test and I got it. I talked to Coach (Frank Mazzotta) my sophomore year about playing them and he said he’ll see if he could make it happen. A lot of people say La Habra hasn’t played anybody. We’re going to see this year.
Q: If it was up to you, where would you be after your senior year?
RH: Oregon, UCLA. Probably (as) a slot (receiver).
I don’t know yet. I’m still going through scouting. I’m not going to make a choice right now.
Q: What NFL player do you see yourself playing like?
RH: That’s a hard question.
Reggie Bush, kind of.
Q: What are your personal goals this season?
RH: Repeat CIF player of the year, All-County first team, all-state.
Q: Is La Habra the best non-Pac-5 team in the county?
RH: (Laughs.) That’s funny. I don’t know. We’re up there. I’m not going to sound all arrogant or cocky and say we are. But we’re one of the top teams outside the Pac-5.
