A Beer League game seems to break out whenever No. 10 Foothill and No. 9 El Toro hook up on a softball field, and the two teams didn't disappoint with the Sea View League title on the line on Thursday at Hillview School.
Foothill rallied from a three-run deficit to win a 9-6 slugfest and capture the league championship.
El Toro (15-15, 7-3), which had its seven-game winning streak snapped, finished tied for second place with No. 17 Trabuco Hills (19-8-1, 7-3).
The Knights and Chargers combined for 22 hits, including five for extra bases. El Toro won the first meeting, 10-9, in a game that featured a combined 20 hits and five homers by the Chargers.
"I don't know what goes on?" Foothill coach Vince Brown said. "Our 10-9 loss last time and then this one. It's just two teams that can swing the bat. I think there is a lot of history that's been developed between the two teams. Boy, I tell you I never felt comfortable the entire game no matter what the score was."
Lauren Chamberlain had an RBI single and Shannon Tinsley added a two-run single during a three-run rally to give El Toro a 3-0 lead in the top of the third.
The Knights responded with a three-run rally in the bottom of the third to tie it, 3-3. Kristine Erickson led off with a solo homer to left-center field, Jaquilyn Edwards had an RBI triple and Emilee Koerner added an RBI single.
Foothill batted aroound in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs to build a 9-3 lead. Hallie Wilson and Taylor Cantillo each had two-run doubles to deliver the big blows.
Tinsley belted a three-run homer in the top of the seventh to cut Foothill's lead to 9-6, but Foothill pitcher Anna Avalos retired the next three hitters to secure the victory.
Tinsley went 2 for 4 with five RBIs and Chamberlain went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI to highlight El Toro's offense.
