Freshman's HR gives Beckman big win

A roundup of the highlights from Tuesday's softball games:

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 17 Beckman 4, No. 7 Laguna Hills 3: Freshman Lauren Bennett hit a three-run homer to highlight a four-run fourth inning for the visiting Patriots (10-5, 3-0), who held on to upset the Hawks (14-5-2, 2-1) and take sole possession of first place.

Laguna Hills took an early lead when Kristina Victa doubled and scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the third.

Beckman came back in the top of the fourth as Trista Thomas drove in Alison Kaprielian, who had singled. Bennet smashed a three-run homer, scoring Thomas and pinch runner Alyssa Hudler to give the Patriots a 4-1 lead.

Laguna Hills added two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Maria Sio, scoring Lauren Lastrapes and Kylee Lahners.

Jasmin Harrell (7-2) scattered seven hits and struck out five to pick up the victory, while Christine Gomez (10-3) took the loss for the Hawks.

Irvine 10, San Juan Hills 0: Jen Walker hit a three-run homer in the fourth for the Vaqueros (11-6, 2-1) in a mercy-rule victory over the visiting Stallions (3-13, 1-2).

In the Trinity League:

No. 11 Santa Margarita 5, No. 14 Orange Lutheran 2: Meghan Harman went 2 for 4 with a double and a home run and Amy Letourneau allowed five hits, no earned runs and struck out eight to help the Eagles (12-8-1, 2-1) knock off the host Lancers (14-8, 1-2).

No. 10 Rosary 6, JSerra 1: Alex Fieldhouse, Danielle Welsh and Briana Magdaleno had two hits apiece and Alex Peyton allowed five hits and no earned runs for the Royals (13-10, 4-0) in a victory over the host Lions (3-11, 0-3).

In the Sunset League:

No. 13 Marina 4, No. 12 Edison 0: Taysia Kaufman tossed a five-hit shutout and Erin Cuevas went 2 for 3 with two RBIs as the Vikings (14-3, 3-0) avenged one of their losses by beating the visiting Chargers (12-5, 1-2).

No. 4 Los Alamitos 4, Fountain Valley 3: Brittney Spalding hit a two-run homer in the fifth and pinch hitter Nicole Baltierra added a two-run single in the sixth to help the Griffins (18-5, 3-0) rally from a three-run deficit to beat the visiting Barons (9-9, 0-3).

No. 6 Esperanza 17, Newport Harbor 0: Kailyn Johnson went 2 for 2 with a double, two runs and three RBIs for the Aztecs (13-9-2, 2-1) in a mercy-rule victory over the visiting Sailors (6-12, 0-3).

In the Sea View League:

No. 15 Foothill 3, No. 8 Trabuco Hills 2: Jaquilyn Edwards and Anna Avalos drove in runs in the first inning and Avalos pitched a complete game to help the Knights (11-6-1, 2-1) upset the Mustangs (14-6-1, 2-1).

No. 23 Northwood 1, Huntington Beach 0: Ari Morrison drove in the winning run in the top of the 10th and Rita Kim went all 10 innings to get the shutout as the Timberwolves (11-10, 3-0) outlasted the host Oilers (9-10, 1-2).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 6, Sunny Hills 1: Shanin Thomas went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs for the Highlanders (12-7, 2-1) in a victory over the visiting Lancers (-5, 1-2).

Fullerton 1, No. 22 Sonora 0: Lindsey Rains pitched a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts to lead the Indians (12-9, 3-0) past the visiting Raiders (11-10, 2-1).

In the Empire League:

No. 16 Pacifica 2, No. 25 Kennedy 0: Lissa Avitia drove in a run in the fifth with a perfectly-executed squeeze, Krystian Dewitt recorded a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts and Jaime Prussic went 2 for 3 as the Mariners (12-10, 2-1) defeated the host Fighting Irish (8-7, 0-3).

No. 24 Valencia 14, Katella 0: Krysta Fauria went 3 for 3 with a run and two RBIs and Amanda Lievanos and Bekah Sanchez each drove in three runs to power the Tigers (12-4, 2-0) past the host Knights (4-14, 0-3).

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 12, Santiago 2: Adrianna Cardoza went 2 for 5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs and Ariana Lopez went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs as the Aztecs (11-8, 2-1) picked up a mercy-rule victory over the visiting Cavaliers (6-7, 0-2).

Garden Grove 13, Los Amigos 0: Jasmine Antunez pitched a no-hitter for the Argos (9-11, 3-0) in a mercy-rule victory over the host Lobos (3-12, 0-3).

No. 19 Rancho Alamitos 19, Bolsa Grande 0: Sam Haralson went 1 for 4 with a homer, three runs and four RBIs and Karen Mao went 3 for 4 with a double, three runs and an RBI for the Vaqueros (12-4-1, 3-0) in a mercy-rule victory over the host Matadors (3-8, 0-3).

In the Orange League:

Savanna 14, Magnolia 0: Venessa Meza went 3 for 4 with five RBIs and Serra DellaValle homered and had a two-run double for the visiting Rebels (9-10, 3-0) in a mercy-rule victory over the Sentinels (9-10, 0-3).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 4, Valley Christian (Cerritos) 1: Sara Moy went 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Richelle Coberly went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI as the Heralds (16-3, 3-0) dropped the visiting Knights (5-12-1, 0-4).

In the Orange Coast League:

Estancia 10, Godinez 3: Cheyanne Flores went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs as the Eagles (13-5, 2-0) defeated the visiting Grizzlies (0-9, 0-2).

Calvary Chapel (Santa Ana) 12, Costa Mesa 6: Cassandra Ginnis went 4 for 4 with a triple, a stolen base, three runs and two RBIs, Breanna Ginnis doubled and drove in three runs, Shellby Jones went 2 for 3 with a double, a run and three RBIs and Dani Bonham went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs for the Eagles (12-6-1, 1-0) in a victory over the host Mustangs (11-12, 1-2).

In the Academy League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 12, Sage Hill 7: Jordan Hodge went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Hannah Spraker went 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs to lift the Eagles (8-9-1, 2-1) over the visiting Lightning (1-9, 0-2).
