Kickoff '08: St. John Bosco Braves

OCVarsity.com

St. John Bosco

Last season: 3-6, 1-3 (fifth place)

Postseason: 2004, lost to Long Beach Poly in Division I second round

Coach: Kiki Mendoza (11th year, 51-54)

Outlook: Mendoza likes the mental and psychological makeup of the Braves this year. They also have their usual athleticism. Quarterback Keith Price has committed to Washington, and receiver/cornerback Will Shamburger has committed to Boise State. This could be a young group this season. Mendoza figures that three sophomores will start or will play a great deal. Breaking into the top three in this league is difficult, but Mendoza said this could be the year the Braves do so.

Home stadium: St. John Bosco High of Bellflower

Factoid: Since going 5-0 in the Serra League in 2002, Bosco has gone 8-16 against Serra/Trinity opponents.

Strongest: Jared Ginter

Fastest: Will Shamburger
