SEAN AVILA
Esperanza High School
6'-2", 250 lbs, Senior
Defensive lineman
Highlights: Avila was selected as Sunset League co-defensive player of the year. The senior, who coach Bill Pendleton called "the cornerstone of the defense," recorded 59 tackles, 10 for loss, six sacks, one interception, blocked a kick and recovered two fumbles. Avila was usually double-teamed but still found ways to make plays to lead a defense that allowed 13.7 points a game.
CHRIS ROBINSON
Tustin High School
6'-1", 265lbs, Senior
Defensive lineman
Highlights: Robinson transferred in from Salinas, but he quickly made himself feel right at home on the Tustin's defense. He recorded 11 sacks and was voted the Century League's Lineman of the Year. "He was a real dominant player for us," Myron Miller said. "He was double-teamed the whole year.
He's a good run-stopper and pass-rusher." Robinson has a scholarship offer from Nevada, but has also drawn interest from Arizona State and San Diego State. Miller sees Robinson's future at the nose guard position.
AWWAD YASIN
Fountain Valley High School
6'-0", 185 lbs., Senior
Defensive lineman
Highlights: If it appeared that Yasin couldn't be blocked this season, that's because linemen struggled with him all season. He finished with 70 tackles, eight for loss, 15 quarterback hurries and nine sacks and was selected as Sunset League Defensive Lineman of the Year. "For a guy his size, he was amazing," Barons coach John Shipp said. Fountain Valley allowed 13 points a game in the Sunset League as it finished in a five-way tie for the league title. He was a key reason why the Barons advanced to the Pac-5 playoffs.
