Loara vs. Sonora
ANAHEIM - Loara scored 31 consecutive points in the second and third quarters to defeat Sonora, 31-15, on Friday night at Western High.
"We recovered from getting punched in the mouth,"said Loara coach Dean Lappin, whose team was held to five plays in the first quarter. "We rallied and got some big plays.”
Trailing 7-0, quarterback Marcus Meraz was instrumental in bringing Loara (3-0) back, tying the game on an 18-yard keeper before giving the Saxons the lead on a 21-yard touchdown pass to John Werner. Anthony Bautista, who had 145 yards rushing, added third-quarter touchdown receptions of 27 yards and 3 yards to seal the victory.
"We're very excited for our kids,"Lappin said. "We're hoping to be competitive in league this year."
Sonora (2-1) scored first on a Derek O'Hanlon 4-yard run. Hurt by three turnovers, the Raiders would not score again until late in the game on a Chaz Woxland 14-yard run.
