FIRST TEAM

Megan Heneghan, Beckman, Sr.

Megan Heneghan lost just one match this season – in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS individual tournament. Playing No. 1 singles, she helped Beckman reach the playoffs by finishing third in the Pacific Coast League. She also won her third consecutive PCL singles title. She is attending UC Davis next fall.

Krista Hardebeck, El Modena, Soph.

Krista Hardebeck lost in the CIF-SS singles individual championship match. It was her only loss of the year as she guided El Modena to a share of the Century League title. She also earned her second straight Century League singles title.

Joanna Smith, Dana Hills, Jr.

Joanna Smith won the South Coast League singles crown for the second year in a row. She reached the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS individual tournament. Playing No. 1 singles for Dana Hills, she also helped the team reach its third consecutive CIF-SS Division I team final.

Alyssa Smith, Dana Hills, Fr.

Alyssa Smith blasted her way on to the scene this year. She lost just six sets all season and finished runner-up in the South Coast League singles final. She reached the semifinals of the CIF-SS individual tournament and was part of the team's run to the sectional final.

Victoria Wing, Dana Hills, Sr.

Victoria Wing would be the top singles player for most teams in the county, but played No. 3 singles on deep Dolphins squad. Her talent made Dana Hills' singles line up the most dangerous in the county.

Jocelyn Lu, Laguna Hills, Sr.

Jocelyn Lu had the unfortunate luck of playing in the loaded Pacific Coast League. She finished runner-up in the league finals. She also pushed Alyssa Smith to three sets in the CIF-SS individual tournament's third round. She finished with a 63-7 record for the season, with three of her losses coming to Beckman's Megan Heneghan.

Melissa Matsuoka, Corona del Mar, Sr.

It's hard to find a county singles player who came up bigger in key matches this season than Melissa Matsuoka. She was Corona del Mar's top singles player, and helped the team record its 10 straight league title. She won the PCL doubles title and reached the finals of the CIF-SS individual tournament with partner Hailey Hogan.

Hailey Hogan, Corona del Mar, Sr.

Hailey Hogan was arguably the most versatile player in the county this season. While she spent most of the year playing No. 2 singles for Corona del Mar, she also displayed her talents in doubles. She captured the Pacific Coast League doubles title playing with Melissa Matsuoka. She also reached the doubles final of the CIF-SS individual tournament.

Kyra Scott, University, Soph.

Kyra Scott was the most improved player this season. After playing No. 1 doubles last season, Scott jumped to singles this year and provided consistency for the University lineup. She also came up big in doubles, where she finished runner-up in the Pacific Coast League finals with partner Hayley Thompson. Together, the pair reached the semifinals of the CIF-SS individual tournament.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Rick Trager, St. Margaret's

In his fifth season, Rick Trager has been at the helm for back-to-back CIF-SS Division IV titles and undefeated seasons. The Tartans captured the Academy League title and the CIF crown to finish 25-0 this year. Their win streak stands at 50.

"On a team like this, having such great players and great talent, it's easy to work with," Trager said. "They respond to challenges better. It not just that we won CIF, it was that we all meshed together, we all supported each other. That's the difference for us.

"My motto is never quit, never give up. My three captains they practiced, they preached that for me. They would always help in that area. I credit my three captains for that."
