Amrine carries Segerstrom
SANTA ANA - Aaron Amrine rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns, and Justin Mills added 111 yards rushing and a score to lead Segerstrom past Orange, 35-14, in a Golden West League matchup at Segerstrom High on Friday.
Amrine took the handoff on the first play of the game for a 56-yard score. Orange (2-6, 1-2) answered with a 15-play drive capped by Axel Sanchez’s 3-yard rushing score to tie the score at 7, but the Jaguars (4-4, 3-0) notched four consecutive rushing scores to put the game out of reach.
Brian Murrieta rushed for 16-yard score on a quarterback keeper, and Amrine scored from 12 yards out on a double handoff to go up, 21-7, at the half.
Matt Navarro and Mills added fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns to pad the lead before Sanchez scored his second touchdown of the game with 2:44 left in the game.
“This game was huge,” Segerstrom coach Mike Maceranka said. “We played a tough preseason because we wanted to be ready for league. A lot of teams don’t. But if you look at our record, it’s the real deal.”
Sanchez finished with two scores and a game-high 158 rushing on 28 carries.
Hector Diaz led the Jaguars defense with two sacks and also recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.
