Trabuco Hills cruises to victory
MISSION VIEJO - One thing is certain when Trabuco Hills opens the CIF-SS playoffs next week: the starters will be well-rested. They were off the field early in the second quarter as the Mustangs punctuated their second Sea View League title in three seasons with a 44-6 victory Thursday against visiting Northwood.
The Mustangs (9-1, 5-0) barely broke a sweat. The offensive starters were on the field 16 plays, but in that time Shane DeCillo carried six times for 51 yards, with two 1-yard scores, and a 36-yarder made it 37-0 with 10:41 left in the second quarter.
A.J. Josue completed 4 of 6 passes for 77 yards, including a 39-yarder to Tommy Smith for a touchdown to make it 28-0.
Even the defense got into the act as Adam Gann returned an interception 31 yards to give Trabuco Hills a 14-point lead less than 3.minutes into the game.
“We got up on them early, which is what we wanted to do,” Trabuco Hills coach Jason Negro said. “We stayed healthy, too, and a lot of kids got a chance to play.”
The night began and ended horribly for Northwood (3-7, 0-5), which has lost 18 of 20 league games, including 10 in a row.
Trabuco Hills had first-half scoring drives of 9, 40, 39 and 47 yards.
The second half was played with 10-minute quarters, with many Mustangs seeing action.
