In her first race in the county this season, Dunne (16:44) posted the fastest time of the meet of any female runner in the state, finishing second overall in the girls sweepstakes race at the 28th annual Woodbridge Invitational on Saturday night at Woodbridge High.
“I told myself that I wanted to get in the top three,” said Dunne. “The big thing for me this season is focusing on being more consistent.”
Junior Sarah Andrews (16:17) of The Woodlands High School in Texas finished first overall. Her time was the second fastest time in the history of the meet.
Former Woodbridge star Christine Babcock posted a 16:05 in last year’s race.
The team title was won by Saugus High (44 points), who had five girls finish in the top 20. The Woodlands High (117) was second, with Great Oak (153) placing third. Canyon (255) was the highest county finisher, coming in at fifth.
In the boys sweepstakes race, University City senior Mac Fleet (14:22) was the top finisher for the second year in a row.
Crescenta Valley senior Zack Torres (14:26) was second, with Mission Viejo senior James Cameron (14:35) placing third.
Buchanan High of Clovis (117 points) won the team sweepstakes, with Vista Murrieta (121) coming in second, and Arcadia (160) finishing third.
Trabuco Hills (178) was the top county finisher, placing fifth, with El Toro (204) coming in sixth.
