LAGUNA HILLS - Coach Eric Lo didn’t credit any halftime words of wisdom for Huntington Beach’s turnaround in the second half, instead he pointed to the resolve and the fourth quarter heroics of his seniors.

After a scoreless first half, the Oilers started making key plays and grinded out a much-needed 13-10 Sea View League victory over El Toro on Friday at Laguna Hills High.

“We are a very competitive bunch, and we seem to really come on in the second half,” Lo said. “This is our third come-from-behind victory … we have a group of seniors that refuse to let us lose.”

After a dismal first-half performance and having just dodged a potential 13-point deficit after a missed field goal by El Toro (2-7, 1-3), Huntington Beach’s fortunes began to change. A 60-yard strike from junior Sean Guite to junior Kaller Roemer cut the deficit to 10-6.

During the Oilers' (4-5, 2-2) first drive of the fourth quarter, Guite managed to squeeze what initially appeared to be an interception past the defender to senior Jonathan Ogilviefor a 43-yard score and the lead.

Guite finished with 216 yards through the air; Ogilvie was on the receiving end for 81 of those yards.

El Toro’s final drive was shaping up to be its finest of the night. The Chargers had marched 60 yards with under three minutes to play and were looking strong, facing first and 10 from the 20. Having completed four straight passes on the drive, senior Braden Olson dropped back and launched a promising ball down the right side, only to have Ogilivie step into its path and lock down the Oilers win.
