•Corona del Mar's Stefan Kaluz was Division III-A player of the year last season, when he averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds, and shot 64 percent from the floor. Joe Eberhard was All-CIF. He scored 10 points a game, and had 54 steals. …

•University can score in the 90s, and did so once already this season in a 98-42 victory over Costa Mesa. The Trojans have a group of good 3-pointer shooters, as usual. …

•Laguna Hills had nine seniors on the roster las season, so this is an inexperienced group of returning Hawks. They likely need an injury-free season to challenge Corona del Mar for the league title. …

•Irvine won four games in the first half of December, so it is probable the Vaqueros will win more games than they did last season. …

•Beckman has its first group of seniors, but the Patriots' lack of height could be a problem.
