Corona del Mar airs it out to defeat Magnolia

SPECIAL TO OCVARSITY.COM

NEWPORT BEACH -- Corona del Mar used a precise passing attack as it got back to its winning ways in a 48-6 victory over Magnolia on Friday night at Newport Harbor High.

Sea Kings senior QB Brent Lawson threw for 198 yards and five touchdowns in less than one half. Among his favorite targets was Josh Giger, who had five receptions for 118 yards.

With less than three minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Giger scored on a fourth-and-15 play to give CdM a 14-0 lead as the Sea Kings (4-1) scored on their first six possessions.

An interception by Greg Williford set up the Sea Kings’ last score of the half as Alex Moore found a lane for a 15-yard score.

The Sentinels (0-4) avoided the shutout on the first play of the fourth quarter when Waseem Akbar found Jerrad Wade for a 40-yard TD.
