    Peotters goals rally CdM past Laguna Beach

    Allison Peotter scored from about 6 meters with 21 seconds left in the fourth period to rally Corona del Mar’s No. 4 girls water polo team past No. 3 Laguna Beach, 6-5, in a quarterfinal match at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions on Friday night.

    Peotter, who is coming off a rib injury, scored on a shot that bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the goal. The senior also tied the score, 5-5, with a strike with 1:57 left in the fourth.

    Peotter didn’t start the match but finished with two goals and four steals.

    Corona del Mar (9-5) trailed, 4-1, at halftime but advanced to Saturday's 11:10 a.m. semifinal against Holiday Cup champion and host Dos Pueblos (13-1). Annika Dries and Natasha Schulman each scored twice to lead the Breakers (10-3).

    In other quarterfinals:

    Dos Pueblos 5, Los Alamitos 4:
    The Griffins (13-3) fell to Dos Pueblos on the lone goal of the game for Kiley Neushul. The freshman beat a double team with a skip shot from 7 meters with 3:59 left in the fourth period.

    No. 1 Newport Harbor 9, No. 6 Villa Park 7:Nina McCall scored four goals and the Sailors (15-1) overcame two missed penalty shots to beat the Spartans (9-4) at Dos Pueblos. Ally Waasted and Cassie Churnside each scored three goals for Villa Park.

    Newport Harbor plays rival Foothill in the 12:15 p.m. semifinal Saturday at Dos Pueblos.

    Foothill (11-2) advanced with a 9-5 triumph against Long Beach Wilson. Brittany Zwirner scored three goals to lead the Knights.
