Villa Park, Laguna Beach post upsets
Villa Park and Laguna Beach's boys water polo teams posted upsets of the fifth and sixth-ranked teams in Orange County on Thursday.
Four players scored two goals apiece and goalie Sam Thompson made 11 saves as unranked Villa Park stunned No. 5 and visiting El Toro, 9-7, in a nonleague match.
Gunnar Abato, Anton Ketterer, Shane Monnig and Connor Shopshire each scored twice to help the Spartans (7-10) bounce back from a 13-4 loss to rival Foothill on Tuesday.
Villa Park led the Chagers, 9-3, after three periods.
No. 9 Laguna Beach edged visiting and No. 6 Dana Hills, 11-10, in overtime.
Camron Hauer and Duncan Lynde each scored three goals for the Breakers (9-6) while Spencer Likins and Sam Pfeil collected four apiece for the Dolphins (11-5).
Dana Hills was coming off a historic victory against El Toro on Tuesday.
In the Trinity League:
Santa Margarita 9, Servite 5: Dana Petersen scored a team-high four goals and Ryan Melosini made eight saves to lead the host Eagles (11-9, 1-0) to a key league victory.
In the Golden West League:
Segerstrom 5, Ocean View 4: The Jaguars improved to 9-2 overall, 2-0 in the Division 7 league,
