No. 5 Edison makes its case against Long Beach Wilson
Alys Williams scored six goals and Danielle Warde added four to lead Edison's No. 5 girls water polo team past Long Beach Wilson, 10-8, in a nonleague match at Belmont Plaza on Wednesday.
The Bruins entered the season-opening game ranked fourth in the Division I preseason poll while Edison was surprisingly unranked.
The Chargers led 7-3 midway through the third period and 10-6 with just over two minutes left in the fourth.
Williams, a sophomore, scored at least one goal in each period.
Edison coach Diggy Riley was pleased with his team's play considering its limited practice time the past week. Edison's pool was too cold to practice in Monday. The Chargers also spent Tuesday at Golden West College.
"I'm just proud of them," Riley said. "Great defense."
Riley said Haley Kunert played strong 2-meter defense. The Chargers also got nine saves from goalie Clair Babinski.
