CERRITOS -- Things couldn’t have started much worse for Fairmont Prep, but couldn’t have ended much better.
The Huskies fell behind by two touchdowns in the first quarter, but roared back to a 49-20 San Joaquin League victory Saturday over Sherman Indian of Riverside at Valley Christian High.
Kevin Wagner passed for three touchdowns, and Richard Johnson scored three times for Fairmont (3-2, 1-1).
Sherman Indian fullbacks Barry Oakgrove (6-1, 230) and William Lewis (5-10, 220) pounded through the defense early on.
Lewis scored on runs of 15 and 5 yards to give the Braves (1-4, 0-2) a 14-0 lead with 1:49 left in the first quarter.
It was all Fairmont after that.
Michael Graves knocked Lewis from the game with a dislocated shoulder.
Johnson’s 37-yard kickoff return set up a 27-yard TD pass from Wagner,
Minh Dang scored from 31, and Johnson scored from the 5 to make it 21-14 with 3:49 left in the half.
