Santiago edges Los Amigos
GARDEN GROVE Santiago held off a late Los Amigos rally, 25-21, in Garden Grove league action at Garden Grove High.
Santiago found the end zone late in the fourth quarter when Salvador Ceja punched it in from the 2.
Los Amigos started the game off with a bang when Jose Perez picked off Santiago’s only pass attempt of the game and returned it 40 yards for the score.
Santiago struck back on the ensuing drive, running the ball on every play, culminating with a Ceja 4-yard run. Ceja finished the night with 47 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.
Los Amigos scored again on the next drive when Perez ran it in from the 10-yard line. The Lobos were led on the ground by Leonard Zambrano, who finished the night with 106 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown.
Santiago opened up the second half with an 83-yard run by Missael Lagunas. Lagunas credited his guys up front for the long run.
“My offensive line opened up a huge whole for me and I hit it. We played assignment football,” Lagunas said.
