Santiago strikes early, then holds down Segerstrom
The Cavaliers improve to 3-0 with their victory, 16-0.
GARDEN GROVE - Santiago scored on its first possession and the made the most of it, holding visiting Segerstrom to 159 yards of offense in a 16-0 victory Thursday night at Bolsa Grande Stadium.
The Cavaliers remained unbeaten at 3-0, while the Jaguars dropped to 1-3.
Using a balanced attack, as it would all night, Santiago marched 64 yards in seven plays on its opening drive, capping it with a 28-yard strike from Chris Ortega to Oscar Languren. Languren tacked on the extra point with less than three minutes gone.
Santiago had its chances to break the game open in the first half but lost a fumble inside the Jaguars 40, had a touchdown called back on an offensive pass interference penalty and turned the ball over on downs inside the Segerstrom 15.
Chris Ortega's 2-yard run capped a 62-yard scoring drive to start the fourth quarter.
On the ensuing drive, a bad snap on a punt attempt went out of the end zone for a safety.
Segerstrom recovered four Cavaliers fumbles. Daniel Torres had a fumble recovery and an interception for Santiago.
