San Clemente gets first shutout

OCVarsity.com

SAN CLEMENTE San Clemente delivered its first shutout of the season, beating Aliso Niguel, 35-0, in a South Coast League game Friday night at San Clemente High.

The Tritons (6-2-1, 2-1-1) recorded a season-high eight sacks and held the Wolverines (1-8, 0-4) to 16 rushing yards.

"The whole defense is playing well right now," Tritons coach Eric Patton said.

"They were just swarming the field tonight."

It was so good for San Clemente that kicker Aaron Jones, in his first action at safety, intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter. Jones also connected on five extra points.

San Clemente opened the scoring on quarterback Brad Curtis’ 39-yard touchdown pass to Alex Wendling. Curtis also found Jade Micalef for a 26-yard score, and just before halftime he hooked up with Matt Belardes on a 19-yard touchdown.

San Clemente can clinch a CIF spot with a victory next Friday at Dana Hills.
