Kickoff '08: San Clemente Tritons

OCVarsity.com

San Clemente

Last season: 7-3-1, 3-1-1 (tied for second)

Postseason: 2007, lost to Servite, 54-43, in first round of Pac 5 Division I playoffs.

Coach: Eric Patton (ninth year, 75-33-1)

Outlook: Despite the loss of QB Brad Curtis, the Tritons expect to be strong offensively again in 2008. According to Coach Eric Patton, senior quarterback Duke Delancelotti will bring the threat of run and pass to the Tritons' attack. Along with Graham Tenney, senior wideout Ben Gomez should help give the Tritons a productive pass-catching duo that should help take some of the pressure away from Delancelotti. The Tritons also lay claim to a solid special teams unit, highlighted by junior kicker Aaron Jones, who led the team in scoring last season. The success of the Tritons could rest on their defense, which returns only four starters and features a front four lacking experience. With a tough nonleague schedule, that unit will be tested early in the season.

Home stadium: San Clemente

Factoid: Averaged 32.2 points per game during league play in 2007.

Strongest: Dylan Reda

Fastest: Ryan Deleon, Josh Leff, David Espino

School record: 221-217-2
