Roundup: Oxford Academy, Irvine fall in semifinals
Larissa Petakoff pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Calvary Chapel of Downey to a 6-0 victory over visiting Oxford Academy in the CIF-SS Division 6 softball semifinals Tuesday.
Only Chapman-bound Cassandra Oregel managed a hit off Petakoff. Oregel connected for a single in the fourth inning.
The only other Patriots to make it on base were Cassandra Coleman (walk) and Becky Roh (fielder's choice).
"Larissa is a very tough pitcher to hit," Calvary Chapel coach Tom Osburn said. "She has a lot of movement on her ball."
Petakoff helped out, too, at the plate. She went 1 for 1, also reaching on a walk and an error, had three stolen bases and scored one run.
Calvary Chapel advances to the championship game, where it will face Citrus Valley of Perris.
Calvary Chapel scored one run in the first and extended its lead to 3-0 in the second.
Sidney Colenzo, who scored two runs for the Grizzlies, hit an inside-the-park home run in the fifth. The Grizzlies scored three runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.
"I'm very blessed to be where I'm at today," Osburn said. "I've got a great staff and a bunch of ladies that just work hard every day."

Camarillo 5, Irvine 3: The Vaqueros' last-inning heroics came to an end as freshman pinch-hitter Megan Resnik hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to give the Scorpions (22-7) the victory.
It looked like Irvine (22-8) was about to pull off another comeback when it rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead.
McRae Cayton led off the inning for Irvine with a triple, and Allison Cukrov drove her in with a single to center. Ashley Corredor sacrificed Cukrov to second. Brooke Madrid doubled to drive in Cukrov with the go-ahead run.
Camarillo plays La Mirada in the championship game Friday or Saturday.
