"You don't expect that big of a day out of somebody, but we've been waiting for him to center the ball more," Mission Viejo coach Chris Ashbach said. "He's been struggling a little bit early in the season, but that's what we knew he could do is swing it.
"It isn't always going to fall in and you're not always going to crush it, but he's definitely got that kind of bat speed and he's that kind of player."
Muno followed up his home run with a three-run double in the third inning that gave the Diablos a 4-0 lead against Capistrano Valley starter Bryan Clough.
"I took a good approach on him," Muno said. "He's a good pitcher."
Clough (1-1) lasted just three innings and allowed four runs. Eddie Dupont replaced him and allowed eight runs in two innings.
Brandon Brennan went 3 for 3 with two doubles for the Cougars.
"We didn't throw strikes like we should," Capistrano Valley coach Bob Zamora said. "We threw wrong pitches in wrong counts and we walked people. ...We played poorly. It was just an all-around bad performance by us."
On the other side, Willie Kuhl, did what coach Ashbach expected of him. Kuhl (2-0) allowed one run on seven hits in five innings for the victory.
"He usually gives us a chance, every time he goes out," Ashbach said. "We know we're going to be a ballgame with him on the mind. He has good command of three pitches and he knows how to pitch."
