Sonora vs. Rowland
Spencer Mummert caught a touchdown pass, intercepted a pass and recorded a big sack late in the game to lead Sonora to a 17-14 victory over Rowland in a nonleague game Thursday night at La Habra High.
Rowland made the final minutes of the game interesting. Trailing 17-7 in the fourth quarter, Rowland's defensive end Danny Davis returned a fumbled Raiders’ punt 3 yards for a TD, trimming Sonora's lead to 17-14 with 3:43 remaining.
However, Mummert and Gustavo Castillo each recorded sacks on Rowland’s (1-2) final drive to spoil the Raiders’ comeback hopes.
"We made adjustments at halftime and we came out fired up in the second half,"said Mummert.
Luis Alba capped a long Raiders' drive in the third quarter with a 20-yard filed goal that upped Sonora's lead to 17-7. Chile Muwele led the Raiders with 58 yards rushing and Ryan Cress caught three passes for 56 yards for Sonora.
