La Habra grinds out another big victory
Sunny Hills vs. La Habra
LA HABRA - The rushing tandem of Joshua Quezada and Ronnie Hillman proved to be too much for Sunny Hills to handle, as La Habra ran past the Lancers, 41-7, Friday night in a Freeway League game played at La Habra High. (Full game stats.)
Quezada gained 144 yards on 12 carries, and Hillman had 104 yards on eight carries.
The Highlanders (6-2, 3-0) have now outscored Freeway League opponents 148-7, but Hillman was not impressed with offense.
"We were sloppy tonight," Hillman said. "Our offense was lackadaisical and I think overlooked them a little bit."
Quezada put La Habra on the board first with a 17-yard touchdown run. He would add another touchdown early in the second quarter to give the Highlanders a 21-0 lead.
The Lancers (4-4, 1-2) remained resilient, scoring on the ensuing drive. Sunny Hills marched 84 yards in 10 plays, the last a Johnny Nguyen 5-yard touchdown run. The Lancers outgained La Habra in the first half, 209 yards to 188.
"I was impressed with Sunny Hills tonight," said La Habra coach Frank Mazzotta. "They are a good football team, and coach Giuliano has those kids playing."
Hillman’s first touch of the second-half went for a 46-yard touchdown run, putting the game out of reach, 27-7.Lancers running back Brett Trump rushed for 86 yards on 18 carries. Nguyen completed 14 of 22 passes and finished with 164 yards.
