SVC girls win regional volleyball semifinal
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO - Second-seeded Saddleback Valley Christian made short work of its CIF Division IV Southern California Regional semifinals girls volleyball match, sweeping No. 3 Woodlake of San Diego, 25-13, 25-16, 25-14, Saturday at Saddleback Valley Christian High.
The Warriors (30-5) reached their first regional final in school history.
Last year, Connelly eliminated the Warriors in the CIF-SS Division 4A semifinals.
Warriors coach Jon Greene said his team had to grow.
“We were young and they've remembered that,” Greene said. “My two seniors, Chelsea (Duhs) and Mackenzie (Burns) have been phenomenal leaders.”
SVC will face Francis Parker of San Diego on Tuesday in the regional final. It defeated Santa Fe Christian in straight sets.
Heidi Dyer had a game-high 14 kills, Jaelyn Greene added 13 and Jamie O'Brien had 18 assists for SVC.
The Tigers (27-5) failed to pressure the Warriors, who struck for at least five points in a row on several occasions, including a five-point streak to end Game 2.
The Warriors had three players record three aces, including Sydnee Martin who was at the helm for two of the extended runs.
