Water polo: Newport Harbor, Los Al reach S & R semifinals
Newport Harbor's No. 2 boys water polo team and No. 3 Los Alamitos have reached the semifinals of the S & R Sport Cup in Irvine.
The Sailors on Saturday will face Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton at 3:45 p.m. at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.
In the first semifinal, the Griffins will duel Long Beach Wilson at 2:40 p.m.
The championship is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
Newport Harbor advanced to the semifinals with a 13-6 victory against Miramonte of Orinda in the quarterfinals Friday. Curtis Fink and Preston Lee each scored three goals for the Sailors (11-2).
Sacred Heart Prep defeated No. 4 Corona del Mar, 10-8, in another quarterfinal. The score was tied, 5-5, at halftime. The Sea Kings fell to 8-4.
Los Alamitos advanced to the semifinals with an 11-4 triumph against No. 7 Foothill. Goalie Luke Weiser racked up 19 saves to lead the Griffins (9-3). Chandler Jarrels added four goals.
Long Beach Wilson defeated Los Alamitos, 16-13, in a nonleague game September 25.
