Sonora takes a Carr ride to victory
Buena Park vs. Sonora. Game played at La Habra High.
LA HABRA - James Carr seemed to always be near the ball for Sonora in the first half, and that turned into good things for the Raiders as they defeated Buena Park, 21-0, in a Freeway League game Friday night.
Carr scored on a 12-yard run on the Raiders' (3-4, 1-1) first possession of the game and added another touchdown in the second quarter from 7 yards out.
His contributions went further than the offensive side of the ball, as he started a turnover barrage by recovering a fumble early in the second quarter after just missing an interception on the previous play.
Carr added another fumble recovery less than four minutes later and made up for his missed interception by intercepting a pass two plays after his second touchdown run.
The Raiders defense forced five fumbles and intercepted three passes, two in the fourth quarter by Anthony Soto.
For the Coyotes (1-6, 0-2), QB Troy Nelson passed for 159 yards. Ricky Verdugo caught four for 107 yards.
