La Habra's Porter awarded player of year honor
BREA – La Habra High linebacker Aaron Porter was announced as O.C. Prep Football Player of the Year during the player recognition dinner Thursday night for the county all-star football game.
Porter, who has signed with UCLA, racked up 11 1/2 sacks and forced five fumbles in 2011.
Porter, a 6-2, 235-pound senior, is the first linebacker to get the award since Servite's Chris Galippo shared the honor with Orange Lutheran quarterback Aaron Corp in 2006.
Porter also played running back. He rushed for almost 900 yards and 17 touchdowns.
The media voted on the annual award, which is part of the festivities for the Brea Lions Orange County North-South Prep All-Star Football Game on July 6.
The 53rd edition of the game will be played at Orange Coast College at 7:15 p.m.
Porter is not playing in the all-star game.
He also was selected the Register's defensive player of the year in December.
Porter hopes to play football and baseball at UCLA.
