Touchard delivers big performance for JSerra
August Touchard has had a knack for performing at her best in big games throughout her career at JSerra.
The second-seeded Lions needed another big performance from Touchard and the senior guard delivered with 21 points, eight assists and five rebounds to help JSerra pull out a 61-58 victory over seventh-seeded Bishop Montgomery of Torrance in the CIF-SS Division 4AA girsl basketball quarterfinals on Wednesday at Bishop Montgomery High.
"August really showed that she's been playing a great schedule for four years," JSerra coach Mary Rossignol said. "I mean, she knows how to win. She put the team on her shoulders and it was awesome to watch."
JSerra (23-6), ranked No. 17 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports, advanced to the semifinals for the second time in three years, and they avenged a 60-54 defeat to the Knights (22-8) on Dec. 5. JSerra plays at third-seeded Serra of Gardena, a 58-45 winner over sixth-seeded St. Anthony of Long Beach, on Saturday at 7 p.m.
"It's awesome," said Touchard, who was a starter as a sophomore. "I just want a ring this year."
Chelsea Lidy converted a 3-point play with 3.1 seconds left in the third quarter to cut JSerra's lead to 48-45.
The Knights appeared to have momentum on their side heading into the fourth quarter.
But Touchard converted a 4-point play to start the fourth quarter and give the Lions a 51-45 advantage.
JSerra had to rely heavily on its guards because 6-foot-4 sophomore Megan House and 6-2 junior Courtney Vaccher were in foul trouble for most of the game. Sophomore Coco Miller finished with 18 points and eight rebounds and Dominique Simms and Corinne Bogle played solid defense.
Vaccher still finished with 12 points and seven rebounds and House had four points, eight rebounds and three assists.
