Brea Olinda hangs on in Nike TOC in Arizona
Arin Perry, who finished with 14 points, made some key free throws down the stretch to help Brea Olinda stave off Sacramento, 43-38, in the John Anderson Division C semifinals of Nike Tournament of Champions on Friday in Chandler, Ariz.
Tori Bryant was the other Brea Olinda player to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points.
"Beating Sacramento was a huge step for us," Ladycats coach Kim Cram-Torres said. "We have been very focused on simply just getting better and working toward being the best team we can be this year, and tonight was really great for our team. But we need to keep getting better."
Brea Olinda (4-3) plays Hamilton of Chandler for the John Anderson Division C championship Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
In other Nike TOC games:
Santa Margarita 57, Williams Field of Gilbert, Ariz. 52: Zaier Williams scored 20 points and dished out 10 assists to help the Eagles (3-4) defeat the Black Hawks (5-9) in the John Anderson Division B consolation semifinals at Chandler High. Taylor Donohue, a 6-foot-2, freshman, finished with six points, nine rebounds and four blocks, and Jordy Co had 13 points and five steals for Santa Margarita.
Cathedral Catholic of San Diego 57, Huntington Beach 43: The Oilers' Reanne Wang made six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, but it wasn't enough to get past the Dons (2-3) in the Mike Desper Division H consolation semifinals at Gilbert, Ariz.
In the Century League:
El Dorado 63, Esperanza 48: The Golden Hawks (11-1, 2-0) opened the game with a 13-0 run and cruised past the host Aztecs (4-7, 0-2) for their ninth consecutive victory.
El Dorado got solid production from forwards Shelby Unger and Jaylin Jones. Unger scored 24 points and hauled in 15 rebounds and Jones scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
In the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions:
Orange Lutheran 50, Ventura 41: Jessica Salottolo scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, Abbey Goodsell scored 12 points and Jami Hahn had eight points and eight rebounds as the Lancers (10-0) beat the Cougars (8-4) in the Gold Division semifinals at Santa Barbara High.
In nonleague games:
Corona del Mar 44, Newport Harbor 14: Natalie Bruening had 10 points and seven blocks, and Krista Anderson had seven points and 10 rebounds to lead the Sea Kings (5-5) past the visiting Sailors (4-11).
Sage Hill 40, Calvary Chapel 37: Maggie Danner had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Shelby Bolen had 11 points and 10 rebounds to lift the visiting Lightning (3-5) over the Eagles (1-10).
Santa Ana Valley 41, Bolsa Grande 23: Center Maira Perez's 17 points helped the visiting Falcons (5-5) defeat the Matadors (0-6).
Pacifica 58, La Puente 27: Ruby Rivera's 21 points paced the visiting Mariners (7-3).
