Mater Dei girls win big in Nike TOC in Arizona
Sophomore Katie Lou Samuelson scored 34 points, including six 3-pointers, and grabbd 12 rebounds to lead Mater Dei past Ossining of New York, 89-67, in the first round of the Nike Tournament of Champions on Thursday in Chandler, Ariz.
Samuelson's sister, Karlie Samuelson, finished with 22 points and seven rebounds for the Monarchs (10-0), ranked No. 3 in the nation by USA Today. Ossining, ranked No. 21 in the nation, is 4-1.

Brea Olinda 61, Timpanagos 29: Shaylissa Jarrett and Reili Richardson scored 14 points apiece to pace the Ladycats (3-3) past their opponents from of Orem, Utah.
Rosary 60, Basha 32: Samantha Hernandez's 22 points helped the Royals (5-2) in their first-round victory over their opponent from of Chandler, Ariz.
In the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions:
Orange Lutheran 55, Oak Park 30: Jessica Salotto scored 13 points to lead the Lancers (9-0) past the Eagles (4-4).
In nonleague games:
Kennedy 45, Segerstrom 42: Aikana Higa scored 16 points to lead the Fighting Irish (6-4) past the visiting Jaguars (9-2).
Ocean View 42, Rancho Alamitos 31: Deja Duke, Alexxas Laun, Treasure Robinson and Savanna Schroder scored eight points apiece to lead the visiting Seahawks (9-2).
Laguna Hills 55, Trabuco Hills 23: Cheyenne Berbey's 14 points and four 3-pointers lifted the Hawks (9-2) over the visiting Mustangs (3-7).
