Los Amigos' balance leads to victory
Los Amigos set a tremendous pace from the opening tipoff and ran away from Rancho Alamitos for a 53-35 victory in a Garden Grove League girls basketball game Wednesday night at Los Amigos High.
The Lobos (11-7, 5-0) took over sole possession of first place by defeating the Vaqueros (10-8, 4-1).

"We came out with the defensive pressure," Lobos coach Sabrina White said. "We knew it was going to be a battle today, so we had to come out and set the tone early.
"The girls came out tonight and did a good job of trying to work the pace we were trying to get."
Los Amigos' leading scorer, Zong Lee, had an off night, finishing with four points. Olisa Horn and Vanessa Garcia stepped up for the Lobos. Horn scored had a game-high 24 points, nine rebounds and three assists and Garcia had 13 points and three assists.
Horn scored 14 of her points in the first quarter to help the Lobos build a 16-9 lead.
Garcia scored nine of her points in the second half as the Lobos pushed the lead to 20.
Los Amigos and Rancho Alamitos shared the league title last season.
The teams will meet again Feb. 8 at Rancho Alamitos in the regular-season finale.
In other Garden Grove League games:
La Quinta 24, Garden Grove 23: Jackie Schlinger scored 11 points to help the Aztecs (3-13, 2-3) hold off the visiting Argonauts (7-10, 1-4).
Santiago 60, Bolsa Grande 14: Zuri Vasquez scored 16 points to pace the Cavaliers (8-9, 3-2) in a victory over the visiting Matadors (2-13, 0-5).
In nonleague:
Bethel Baptist 43, Connelly 40: Priscilla Lopez dropped 25 points on the visiting Koalas (2-12) to lead the Warriors (10-4).
