Mosqueda-Lewis leads balanced Mater Dei attack

Mater Dei got another big game from UConn-bound Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and rolled to a 66-38 victory over Seton of Bladensburg, Md., in the semifinals of the National Title IX Holiday Classic on Wednesday night a Trinity University in Washington, D.C.

Mosqueda-Lewis, who is averaging 21.8 points per game, scored a game-high 26 points.

Junior point guard Jordan Adams had another strong performance, finishing with 15 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals. Jessica Duarte scored 11 points and Alexyz Vaioletama chipped in with six points, eight rebounds and five steals.

The Monarchs, who dropped to No. 3 in the nation in ESPN's latest rankings, improved to 11-1.

Mater Dei plays Dudley of Greensboro, N.C., which is 11-0, for the tournament championship Thursday.

In the Ayala Best of the West Tournament:

Edison 59, Santiago (Corona) 42: The Samuelson sisters took care of business as Bonnie scored 25 points and Karlie added 18 as the Chargers (11-0), ranked No. 47 in the nation, handed the Sharks (11-1) their first loss in the quarterfinals at Ayala High in Chino Hills.

In the West Coast Holiday Classic:

Troy 41, Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach) 32: Shelby Dougherty's 10 points helped the Warriors (9-2), ranked No. 29 in the nation, knock off the Mustangs (9-4) in a third-round game at Beverly Hills High.

In the West Coast Jamboree:

Sonora 48, Chatsworth 35: Jasmine Hills scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Raiders (8-4) past the Chancellors (6-6) in the Gold Division at Pittsburg High.

In the Costa Mesa Winter Classic:

Mission Viejo 50, El Toro 37: Allie Ivar scored 14 points and Nicole Pifer scored 13 as the Diablos (11-3) knocked off the Chargers (11-4) for their fourth consecutive victory.

San Clemente 45, Capistrano Valley 43: Sierra Blankenbecler scored 11 points and Lauren Pluimer had four points, 14 rebounds and five assists as the Tritons (7-6) pulled out a consolation victory over the Cougars (5-7).

Irvine 39, Long Beach Wilson 34: Maddy O'Donnell, who was 11 of 13 from the free-throw line, had 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks as the Vaqueros (7-6) defeated the Bruins (7-4) in a consolation game.

Fountain Valley 43, Newport Harbor 36: Kimberly Kamada sank four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points as the Barons (6-7) beat the Sailors (7-5) in a consolation game.

In the Nike Tournament of Champions:

Canyon 58, Canyon Springs (Las Vegas) 39: Shanice Jackson scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Comanches (10-3) past the Pioneers (3-5) in a consolation semifinal of the Gray Division in Chandler, Ariz.

In the KSA Holiday Classic:

Los Alamitos 51, West Orange (Winter Garden, Fla.) 47: Alissa Okui scored 13 points, Lynne Higashigawa had 11 points and Rachel Bass had 10 points to lift the Griffins (11-3) over the Warriors (10-4) in a semifinal game in Orlando, Fla.

In the Garden Grove Tournament:

Rosary 70, Sunny Hills 40: Maya Arellanos' 22 points helped the Royals (9-4) defeat the Lancers (9-3) in the semifinals.

Foothill 89, Pacifica 31: Molly Greubel's 20 points led the Knights (9-3) past the Mariners (5-5) in the semifinals.

Corona del Mar 51, Segerstrom 48: Kayla Marolt scored 16 points to help the Sea Kings (8-3) rally from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Jaguars (4-7).

Kennedy 64, Century 43: Savannah Johnson scored 27 points to power the Fighting Irish (7-5) past the Centurions (5-8).

Yorba Linda 63, Estancia 32: Alexus Atchley scored 17 points for the Mustangs (7-4) in a victory over the Eagles (5-6).

In the Lady Rebel Holiday Tournament:

Cypress 62, Buena Park 36: Paige Burnett made three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points to lead the Centurions (10-3) past the Coyotes (7-5) in a semifinal.

Katella 55, Western 21: Maritza Meza scored 15 points, Jolene Rankin had 12 points and four assists and Nicky Belmares had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Knights (12-2) in a victory over the Pioneers (7-11).

Valencia 34, Savanna 28: Bridget Licari scored 15 points to help the Tigers (4-3) defeat the Rebels (8-4).

In the Larry Doyle O.C. Championships:

Santa Margarita 59, J.W. North (Riverside) 38: Mandie Hill scored 18 points and Jessica Joseph had 15 points and seven rebounds to lift the Eagles (4-8) over the Huskies (3-6).

In the Avalon Basketball Classic:

Godinez 46, Sage Hill 22: Kikey Ramos had 17 points, 10 rebounds and three steals to lift the Grizzlies (6-6) over the Lightning (5-3) in a second-round game.

In the Tri-City Christian Tournament:

St. Margaret's 65, Hamilton (Anza) 33: Julianna Coleman had 22 points, 13 rebounds and five steals to help the Tartans (6-4) bounce back from a 52-49 victory to Hillcrest Christian of Granada Hills with a victory over the Bobcats (3-4).
