Three Mater Dei players, Hartman picked to U.S. Under-16 team
The players will compete for spots on a team that will play internationally this summer.
Mater Dei girls basketball players Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Alexyz Vaioletama and Jordan Adams were selected to USA Basketball’s under-16 women’s national team, USA Basketball announced.
Thirty-four players participated in the trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., for a chance to travel to the inaugural FIBA Americas under-16 Championships.
Mosqueda-Lewis, Adams and Vaioletama led the Monarchs to a 32-1 record, a Trinity League championship, a CIF-SS Division II-A championship and the Southern California Division II regional finals this past season.
Brea Olinda sophomore Justine Hartman, who helped the Ladycats win a Century League title, a CIF-SS Division II-AA title and the Division II state championship, was also selected to the squad.
Mosqueda-Lewis was selected the 2009 Gatorade State Player of the Year, OCVarsity’s Sophomore of the Year, Trinity League MVP and first team All-County.
Adams was OCVarsity’s Freshman of the Year and made third-team All-County.
Vaioletama made second team All-CIF and first-team All-Trinity League.
Hartman made the All-County first team.
