Orange Lutheran too strong for JSerra
Orange Lutheran-JSerra recap.
COSTA MESA In a matchup of polar opposites — one in contention for a league title and the other battling for pride — Orange Lutheran cruised past JSerra, 51-7, on Friday at Orange Coast College.
In the final Trinity League game for both teams, the Lancers (8-1, 3-1) managed to take control early, driving 57 yards and culminating in a 13-yard touchdown toss from senior Blake Hyepock to senior Cody Smith.
On the Lancers’ next drive, Hyepock hooked up for a second touchdown pass, connecting with USC-bound senior tight end Blake Ayles for a 36-yard score.
Hyepock completed 15 for 18 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
While Coach Jim Kanau’s offense was lighting up the scoreboard, his defense was keeping JSerra (2-7, 0-4) off it.
The Lancers defense forced the Lions to punt on each of their first six possessions.
On the second punt attempt, Orange Lutheran senior Hayden Shaw was able to get to the kicker and block the punt, and senior Doug Gebhardt recovered and jogged into the end zone to put the Lancers ahead, 21-0.
JSerra’s score was a 75-yard pass from Sam Inman to Adam McCanna in the fourth.
