IRVINE - A late fumble looked like it would doom Irvine on Friday night in a Pacific Coast League game against Beckman.

But the Vaqueros regrouped and pulled out a 28-25 victory over the Patriots.

Quarterback D.J. Crumlich connected with Chasen LaMarr on an 8-yard pass with 1:48 left for the winning touchdown.

It capped a big night for Crumlich, who completed 20 of 30 passes for 267 yards and three TDs. Nate Jeffries hauled in 10 catches for 121 yards and one touchdown.

“We were lucky to get out alive, because I think we made more mistakes than they did,” Irvine coach Terry Henigan said.

Leading, 21-19, Irvine (7-1, 1-1) looked like it was in control. But the Vaqueros recovered a fumbled punt at the Beckman 46-yard line.

On the next play, quarterback Sebastian Vollaerts connected with D’Amato Tyson on a 54-yard touchdown pass to put the Patriots ahead, 25-21, with 8:23 left. Beckman missed the two-point conversion.

Tyson led Beckman (5-2, 0-2) with 106 yards on 15 carries and two scores.
